Tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica)

Die Tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica) ist eine Pflanzenart in der Gattung der Blasenkirschen (Physalis) innerhalb der Familie der Nachtschattengewächse (Solanaceae) und somit mit den Tomaten und Kartoffeln verwandt. Sie ist vor allem in Mittelamerika wegen ihrer als Gemüse genutzten Früchte bekannt. Markant ist vor allem die laternenförmige Fruchthülle (siehe PiP), in der sich die kugelige Frucht befindet, die grün geerntet, aber gelb abreift. Die Tomatillo ist unter anderem verwandt mit der Kapstachelbeere =Andenbeere (Physalis peruviana), der Ananaskirsche (Physalis pruinosa) und der zur Dekoration genutzten, jedoch nicht essbaren Lampionblume (Physalis alkekengi).
Meine Frau und ich bauen Tomatillo im Garten an und nutzen sie für Salsa Verde und andere mexikanische Gerichte.

The Tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica) is a plant species in the the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and thus related to tomatoes and potatoes. It is especially known in Central America for its fruits used as vegetables. The lantern-shaped fruit husk (see PiP), which contains the spherical fruit, which is harvested green but ripens yellow, is particularly striking. The tomatillo is related to the Cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana), the pineapple cherry (Physalis pruinosa) and the decorative but inedible lampion flower (Physalis alkekengi).
My wife and I grow tomatillo in the garden and use it for Salsa Verde and other Mexican dishes.
