German Tenor
He was an army officer before turning to a musical career. In 1871 he began his studies with Agnes Schebest-Strauss, and by the end of the year had already appeared at the Munich Opera .He was engaged as a leading tenor at Berlin opera in 1872 , His London debut was as Reinzi in “Rienzi” by Wagner in 1880.In 1882 he toured Italy with Angelo Neumann’s Opera Company to appear in the opera’s of Wagner.His Metropolitan New York debut in 1884 was as Tannhauser in “Tannhauser” by Wagner , he remained at the Metropolitan until 1887 . He made guest appearances in Europe and South America,He also appeared in concert
