MN1011 FLIN FLON - ED ARBOW - MORGAN'S HALF WAY HOUSE

MN1011 FLIN FLON - ED ARBOW - MORGAN'S HALF WAY HOUSE
POSTCARD

Date: No indication on the card, but it is part of a collection dated through the fall of 1917 through the winter of 1918.

Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified

Notation: Mr Ed Arbow & dog in front of Morgan's Half Way House.

Morgan's Half Way House was part of a large operation owned by Charlie Morgan who contracted with the Mandy Mine to haul a minimum of 3000 tons of ore from the mine on winter roads to Sturgeon Landing (40 miles) from where it would travel 120 miles by water to the Pas, then carried by train 1200 miles to smelters in Trail, B.C. To accomplish his part of the transport, Mr Morgan build three complete camps, acquired 600 horses and hired 300 teamsters.

I haven't discovered much about Ed Arbow (pictured) but I suspect that he is the same Ed Arbow mentioned in a Winnipeg Tribune article on August 17, 1934. Described in the article as a "hardy Cranberry Portage prospector", a Mr Ed Arbow made the front page by clinically dying during an operation & being brought back to life. The headline read; " Heart Action, Breathing Stops During Operation, Man Is Restored to Life. Northern Prospector Responds to Artificial Respiration at The Pas".

** This image is from a collection of 31 postcards that I acquired from an original set of 37. They were primarily private postcards (not commercially-produced) focused on the operations and personnel involved with the development & operation of the Mandy Mine on Schist Lake in Northern Manitoba from the early fall of 1917 through to the spring of 1918.
