MN1010 FLIN FLON - (GROUP SHOT)

MN1010 FLIN FLON - (GROUP SHOT)
POSTCARD

Date: No indication on the card, but it is part of a collection dated through the fall of 1917 through the winter of 1918.

Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified

Notation: Two individuals in this group are identified - "Gov. Miller" and "Your Honor". His Honor appears to be Elmer E. Hackman. I acquired 31 cards from a set of 37 - many of which featured Mr. Hackman in the pictures and most of which included handwritten or typewritten notes from Mr. Hackman.

** This image is from a collection of 31 postcards that I acquired from an original set of 37. They were primarily private postcards (not commercially-produced) focused on the operations and personnel involved with the development & operation of the Mandy Mine on Schist Lake in Northern Manitoba from the early fall of 1917 through to the spring of 1918.

I don't know if many of the other folks will be identified with much certainty. The woman did strike me as well. Her outfit & stance gave me the impression that she was on equal grounds with the fellas - likely a prospector herself. I poked around on the internet & discovered that a woman named Kate Rice, now recognized as "Canada's First Professional Woman Prospector", was active in the Snow Lake area during this time period. I wonder if she made a side trip to the Mandy Mine?

Further information on Kate Rice can be found at: www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjI2P6S18XJAhWkqYMKHZghAQAQjB0IBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wim-manitoba.ca%2FWIM%2520Newsletter.pdf&psig=AFQjCNE7ekaUAx6-N3TuKKy7JXr6qYDs7Q&ust=1449437894100943
