hinge at Govt House

I noticed these symbols on the hinges of a door at Government House, the historic residence of Saskatchewan's Lieutenant-Governor. I don't know what the symbols mean, and I find it interesting that this work was done where it would not be seen when the door is closed. However, I did see a similar pattern of symbols on a door knob plate, although I wasn't't able to get a good image of that.
