hinge at Govt House

I noticed these symbols on the hinges of a door at Government House, the historic residence of Saskatchewan's Lieutenant-Governor. I don't know what the symbols mean, and I find it interesting that this work was done where it would not be seen when the door is closed. However, I did see a similar pattern of symbols on a door knob plate, although I wasn't't able to get a good image of that.

Gov House hat trick

A bench and hat rack located in the formal entrance area of Saskatchewan's Government House. When an ice hockey player scores three goals in a game it is called a hat trick, which is what came to mind when I saw this.

Gov House welcome

Every time I visit Saskatchewan's Government House I take some photos of this chair, which is located near the formal entrance to the building, where dignitaries would once have arrived by horse and carriage. One savvy friend suggests this was called a salesman's chair, since it was designed for only short periods of sitting. With the fellow's carved nose projecting into your back, there may be something to that explanation.

An orange tulip in the Liberation Garden beside Saskatchewan's Government House. It's also an exercise in learning how to use a new macro lens.

The tulips growing in the Netherlands Liberation Garden at Government House in Regina were a gift from the government of the Netherlands as a thank you for the role played by the Canadian Army in liberating that country in the winter of 1944-45.

Hello and welcome!

I've never been able to figure out if this is a happy smile, or maybe a bit odd. It is on a wood panel inside the formal entrance to Government House in Regina, Saskatchewan. I wonder if any VIPs coming into the building notice this welcoming fellow.

This dramatic sculpture sat on a window sill at Saskatchewan's Government House. I like the sense of energy it portrays. Do not use this image on blogs, websites or other media without permission. © 2015 William Armstrong. All rights reserved.
