I found these discarded saddles on a trail near Val Marie, Saskatchewan. Looks like they were well used before they were retired.

I noticed that some empty pop bottles stored in an unheated garage developed frost patterns inside the bottle, so I took one outside and played around with it.

A child's rocking horse on display at Regina's civic museum. A display plinth behind the horse provided a nice, contrasty background.

Hollywood on the Valley
Someone was thinking big-time when they built this sign at the lip of the Qu'Appelle Valley, near Craven, SK. Actually, the air is a lot better here than there..

stop on red

I enjoy car shows, in part because getting good images is a challenge. This is a brake light from a Plymouth from the Golden Age of the Tail Fin. Note that the brake light is not part of the body, but is attached by a strut, one of the boldest styling features during an age given to excess.

Mankota hydrant 1
I was attracted to this scene on the Main Street of Mankota, SK, by the variety of colours and textures. When I saw it on my monitor it had a soft, dreamy look to it.

Mankota hydrant 2
After tweaking some elements of this image, I decided to de-saturate it and deliberately soften it to see what happens. Perhaps this adds to the dreamy mood created by the original image.

During a writer's workshop at St. Peter's College I came across this hay rake on one of my walks of the grounds. An example of form and function in harmony.

During Prohibition days Moose Jaw's River Street was a rollicking place where a person could get a drink with ease. This mural adorns a River Street building.

Chicago-based gangster Al Capone was reputed to have taken the train to Moose Jaw when the Chicago police came looking for him in earnest. This mural acknowledges the supposed connection Capone had with Moose Jaw.
