Urriðafoss

Urriðafoss
These falls in the river Þjórsá have the highest average flow rate (360 m³/s) of any waterfall in Iceland. Sadly its days might be numbered because there are plans for a dam and power station.

Wow! Such a breathtakingly beautiful and powerful looking waterfall..!!

You've captured the movement and power of the water perfectly Gudrun. The light is lovely and the mist from the falls adds some great atmosphere. I love those huge chunks of ice too.

Excellent work ⭐️

Thank you so much, Keith! The chunks of ice were the remnants of a very cold spell, I was glad to see some left!

That looks like an incredible place my friend. You have taken this at a top edge so the noise and sight must have been spectacular to say the least. Very well done.

I must say it is nice to see your wonderful Scandinavian captures again after an absence.

Best Wishes. Herb

Many thanks, Herb! There are so many waterfalls in Iceland that only a fraction are named, but they are all spectacular!

My goodness. You certainly see some amazing things on your travels. I don't know if you know the poem called 'The Cataract of Lodore'. Here is a few lines of the poem:

And rattling and battling,
And shaking and quaking,
And pouring and roaring,
And waving and raving,

Thanks very much, Amelia! The poem would fit most waterfalls in Iceland! I once saw Lodore falls and thought them rather underpowered- I guess the poem was written after lots of rain;-)
