Danke vielmals, Uwe! Der Fluss hat im Oberlauf/ im Hochland schon mehrere Dämme, darüber läuft ein erheblicher Teil der Stromversorgung Islands. Aber wenn der Vulkan unter dem Gletscher ausbricht und seine Lava in den Süden schickt, was er früher schon getan hat, sind die alle futsch....

My goodness. You certainly see some amazing things on your travels. I don't know if you know the poem called 'The Cataract of Lodore'. Here is a few lines of the poem:

And rattling and battling,
And shaking and quaking,
And pouring and roaring,
And waving and raving,

Thanks very much, Amelia! The poem would fit most waterfalls in Iceland! I once saw Lodore falls and thought them rather underpowered- I guess the poem was written after lots of rain;-)
