Haus 14-15 - Doppelhaus von Le Corbusier mit Pierre Jeanneret

The most famous building of the 1927 Weißenhof estate is the work of Le Corbusier (real name Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, 1887-1965) and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. One part of the building now houses the Weissenhof museum with the interiour exactly as it was in 1927. The Corbusier houses have been awarded World Heritage status in 2016.

Herzlichen Dank, Lothar! Ich war noch nie drin, soweit ich weiß, ist es recht spartanisch eingerichtet- viele Einbaumöbel und die typischen Corbu- Farben. Von der Dachterrasse hat man anscheinend eine tolle Aussicht.

I saw the Le Corbusier new unité d’habitation last March in Berlin , Gudrun and I was fascinated by its modernity and by many other things...I did not know about this house in Stuttgart, which is amazingly modern and elegant and which you photographed in such a perfect way. Congrats!

Besten Dank, Volker! Das Haus finde ich auch sehr ästhetisch:-) Es ging ja damals um neue Wohnkonzepte und Corbusiers Konzept war, durch Einbauten möglichst viele Möbel überflüssig zu machen. Dass das heute noch umstritten ist, zeigt, wie modern Corbu war (die handwerklichen Mängel sind ein anderes Thema).
Corbusier-Sessel gehen übrigens gut mit BILLY und Jugenstilwohnung;-)

Many thanks, Amelia! This house is a museum now but the other houses of the estate are all rented out. Sometimes you can see that the inhabitants' taste differs- lacy curtains, plastic garden furniture ...;-) But they aren't allowed to change anything about the houses and the inbuilt furnishings and there are also houses where what you could see was very much in style (Bauhaus lamps...)

So schrecklich groß ist es gar nicht, alles "raumoptimiert" mit 60 cm langen Gängen, Einbauschränken und Klappbetten, viel Krempel durfte man da nicht haben. Aber oben eine Dachterrasse mit genialer Aussicht...

Thanks a lot, Keith! It's built on a slope (typical Stuttgart topography) so the stilts make sure that the living quarters aren't too much "underground" at the back of the house. The roof terrace is said to have a great view.
