Haus 33- Einfamilienhaus von Hans Scharoun

Weißenhof Estate was built for the Werkbund exhibition in 1927. With architect Mies van der Rohe in charge 21 buildings designed by 17 architects were built in a record 5 months. Sadly many houses were destroyed in the war but 11 survive to this day.
The house in the photo (and notes) was designed by Hans Scharoun.

Die Weißenhofsiedlung wurde 1927 für die Werkbundausstellung "Neues Wohnen" errichtet. Unter der Leitung von Mies van der Rohe entwarfen 17 Architekten 21 Gebäude, von denen leider nur 11 bis zum heutigen Tag überlebt haben.

Herzlichen Dank, Lothar! Das Haus würde mir auch gefallen;-) Weißenhof ist schon was Besonderes, auch wenn manche Mieter Spitzengardinen vor die Bauhausfenster hängen;-)

Großen Dank, Lutz! Eigentlich muss ich nur in den Bus sitzen und bis "Kunstakademie" fahren....
Ja, die Nazis wollten das "Arabische Dorf" abreissen, zum Glück kam das Kriegsende dazwischen. In der Nähe ist als Gegenentwurf die Kochenhofsiedlung (Paul Schmitthenner), die gefiel den Nazis, Walmdächer etc....

Schönen Dank, Berny! Ja, das kann man grob unter Bauhaus einordnen. Scharoun fällt ein bisschen aus dem Rahmen wegen der Kurven, alle anderen Bauten sind streng rechteckig. Ich werde noch ein paar hochladen in nächster Zeit. Nur schade, dass die Häuser von Gropius im Krieg zerstört worden sind...

Great lines and curves of the Art Deco period. Elegant, functional and modern for its time. I love the PiPs too. There was only one Art Deco building in St.Andrews where I grew up. and that was the cinema.

Many thanks, Amelia! Hans Scharoun liked curves, just think of his later and more famous work Berliner Philharnonie:-) The rest of the estate is pure Bauhaus, Scharoun didn't quite fit in and was nearly not invited for being too romantic;-)
