The troll of Dimmuborgir

The troll of Dimmuborgir
Dimmuborgir (literally: dark castles) was created 2300 years ago during the fissure eruption in the Þrengslaborgir und Lúdentsborgir cone row. Because the many rootless eruptions in Lake Mývatn held up the lava flow a secondary lava pond was created that drained rapidly once the lava had made a dry pathway across the lake, leaving behind a maze of lava tubes and pillars.
