Dark clouds over Katla
Mýrdalsjökull and outlet glacier Sólheimajökull seen from the ring road. Because of an unusually high level of seismic unrest in Katla caldera the aviation colour code was raised to yellow and civil protection declared a state of uncertainty. For the moment the activity has gone down again but the volcano continues to be monitored closely.

Mýrdalsjökull und Auslassgletscher Sólheimajökull von der Ringstrasse. Wegen eines ungewöhnlich starken seismischen Schwarms wurde die Warnstufe für den Flugverkehr auf Gelb gesetzt und der Katastrophenschutz hat einen Status erhöhter Wachsamkeit ausgerufen. Momentan ist die Aktivität wieder zurückgegangen, aber der Vulkan wird weiterhin engmaschig überwacht.

Das Foto ist sehr schön, wenngleich sich der Text schon bedrohlich anhört. Aber die Menschen auf Island sind den Vulkanismus wohl gewohnt.

Besten Dank, Leo! Mir wäre lieb, Katla könnte sich zu etwas entscheiden, weil ich in einer Woche im Flieger dorthin sitze und wir 2 Nächte direkt unterhalb des Vulkans sein werden;-)

Herzlichen Dank, Uwe! Allerdings! Nur soll sie mir bitte nicht den Urlaub verhageln;-) Im schlechtesten Fall eine Stunde Vorwarnzeit, da kommt man gerade eben aus dem Schlimmsten raus....

Es sind eigentlich 2 Übernachtungen direkt unterm Vulkan geplant- mal sehen, ob das geändert wird....evakuiert zu werden habe ich keine Lust, Katla soll sich benehmen;-)

Danke, poly! Ja, das kann man wohl von allen Gletschern sagen... In Island wird's dann in Form von verstärktem Vulkanismus ziemlich lustig werden, und davon wird auch Europa einiges abbekommen.

Thanks very much! I must say I was rather glad that Katla kept quiet - we spent 2 nights only 5 minutes from where a jökulhlaup would have hit....
