London: former Daimler Hire garage, Herbrand Stree…

Built 1931-3 to designs by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners. Daimler-owned cars were stored on the upper floors while the basement was used as a car park, for privately owned cars, with a waiting-room, attendant's office, lavatories and telephones. Each floor had an electrically operated pressure washing plant for the cars. The spiral vehicle ramp on the right, originally entered beneath the "McCANN" lettering, was one of the earliest of its type, and is probably the earliest survivor. Presumably contemporary with the vicarage itself, built in 1859 to designs of Richard Reynolds Rowe.

Fulbourn - Former All Saints' Vicarage, Pierce Lan…

This is the best photograph that I could get without trespassing of a building which is of more historical than architectural or picturesque interest as it was built in 1859, to designs of Richard Reynolds Rowe, to replace an earlier vicarage even though All Saints' church had collapsed in 1766. Fulbourn, like Swaffham Prior , had until then two churches (All Saints and St Vigor's) standing in one churchyard; following the collapse of All Saints, an act of 1775 required the two incumbents to officiate in St Vigor's on alternate weeks (unless they agreed otherwise) and the two benefices were not united until 1876. All Saints' vicarage was then let from 1881 and sold in 1892 with its 7 acres of grounds, becoming known as Field House. [ www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=18826 ]

1978 Mercedes Benz 230C Coupé (C123) 2014-01-23

The registration of this car is now (April 2014) on a 2005 Mercedes, so I may have photographed it only just in time. The registration was issued in Leicestershire in, or shortly after, 1904, and must be quite valuable; rather surprisingly, the car resided not at some country seat but at a suburban semi-detached!

The low sun hitting the car at an oblique angle is not flattering the paintwork.
