Juxtaposition. The male gaze? The sculpture is called the Illuminated crowd. "The Illuminated Crowd, a sculpture where 65 people of all ages, race, facial expressions and conditions are depicted on four platforms, illustrates the degradation of the human race and symbolizes the fragility of the human condition. Created by Franco-British artist, Raymond Mason, this unique public sculpture is made from stratified polyester resin with polyurethane paint and is located just outside the main gate of McGill University.

Two Mourning Cloak (or Camberwell Beauty, Nymphalis antiopa. le morio) butterflies. They hibernate through the winter and are the first large butterflies on the wing in Spring. These were feeding on sap escaping form a recently cut tree trunk, there were also several flies also feeding these juices. The one on the top has seen much better days I think.

Verbascum thapsus, the great mullein, is a European plant that has adapted very successfully to living in N. America as a fairly common weed.

Every autumn we bring our rosemary plant indoors to escape the winter. It responds by bursting into flower. They are tiny, but looked at closely they are beautiful examples of nature's engineering.
