Learning the fine art of balance

Not a particularly photogenic shot, but I wanted to add it to my owl set. A shot from my archives, taken on 28 May 2012, NW of Calgary. This thin, bent-over tree was only a few feet high, but it was this little Northern Hawk Owlet's first big day of adventure out of its nest. This is the way owlets climb when they can't yet fly. It's all grab and flap, lol. After a while, Mom flew over and gave it a Meadow Vole, right in front of our eyes.
