Valerian, I think

Valerian, I think
I'm not sure, but I think this is a Valerian species, just beginning to open its tiny buds. Whatever it is, I thought it was quite prettyo. Taken on a brutal hike on the Arethusa Cirque trail, in Kananaskis, on 30 July 2011. I remember that a lot of the trail was so steep that I didn't dare try and take any flower shots for fear of losing my balance on the exposed trail that overlooked such a steep, steep drop. After turning once to look at the view behind me, I decided that once was enough. Consequently, I came home with very few flower photos from that day. The view at the top was beautiful, of course, but I can no longer manage hikes like this. I love the mountains, but my body cries out for flatter trails. Still, I'm so thankful that I can get out at all!
