Battenburg cake

I've been out of the house so much recently and just didn't get a chance to photograph this Battenberg cake until all I had left were two rather dry slices left, LOL!! Still tasted good though : ). Anyone else out there familiar with this ridiculously sweet cake, with marzipan round the outside and overly sweet jam gluing the quarters together : ) My mother first introduced my kids to it many, many years ago, and from time to time my daughters will buy one for me. This particular cake was given to me by my youngest daughter, Rachel (Flickr, Silver Pomegranate), when she came to Calgary from Vancouver for a short visit. It was part of my birthday present for today : )
