More Experimentation...

Saturday Self-Challenge: New Year's Resolution
One thing I always resolve to do each year is to experiment more with photography. This past year was especially hard to do for lack of time and inspiration. So for this week's challenge, I decided to fulfill this resolution by playing around with unconventional artificial lighting.
I used my Sansevieria cylindrica plant as a subject when it surprised me by quickly opening its blooms over a short two hour period. I tried all different ways to photograph them so that their thin delicate blooms could be seen and take center stage. Alas, even my camera lens had difficulty focusing on them! Then with time running out, the battery in my camera went dead and I had no other recourse but to use the phone camera. After much trial and error, I succeeded in my mission using a small flashlight beaming from above. It had the effect of a spot light while at the same time creating a dark background that accentuated the flowers. Because I could handle both the phone and flashlight at the same time, I was able to take this image unassisted. (Best seen enlarged on black)
