Chincoteague Ponies

Chincoteague Ponies
Saturday Self-Challenge: Post-processing

Last Sunday and Monday, I had the pleasure of taking a short trip to Ocean City, Maryland and Assateague/Chincoteage Islands. We came across this herd While we were on the road. The ponies were beautiful, but the mosquitoes were awful! More information about this amazing place: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chincoteague_Pony

I used PicMonkey to process this image: Automatic exposure - Shadows: -20, Rotated 0.76, Used Urbane effect. The unprocessed version of this image is in the note.

Have a great weekend everyone! Hugs to Marie-claire and Pam!

Oh, this is so pretty, Val. I like how you caught the one in the water and you even got a foal in there!

You really improved it with your processing. Nice job!

I've never heard of this kind of horse before, but they are really lovely. This is a particularly good picture, Val. I do like they way you've enhanced it, with the process. I tend to do that to most of my pictures and it's amazing how it's managed to change the picture.

Wonderful effect you got from the filters in post-processing. Much richer, though there is a loss of detail in the darker areas. It's always a bit of work to get the look you're after!

The ponies...*sigh*...I always dreamed of having one of these ponies, "Misty of Chincoteague* was such a favorite book of mine.

Your comment about the mosquitoes reminds me of the story that Ron Hanko related in a comment left on one of my pictures...I nearly died from laughing...I am horrible...I'm still giggling!

We camped years ago at Assateague Island on the east coast. Found so many mosquitoes on the landward side that the kids were screaming, so moved to the other side where there were no mosquitoes - until evening came and the wind changed and started blowing the mosquitoes our way instead of towards the mainland. We took refuge in our tents until about midnight when a storm came and blew down my brother's family's tent. They took refuge in our tent but only until the storm blew ours down as well. We took refuge in the cars and about then the storm stopped, but it was very hot and very muggy and we dared not roll down the windows. We would hear thumps from the other car and in the morning the white interior was full of blood spots, ours too but you couldn't see them as well. We survived the night only by starting the car from time to time and going for a ride so that we could open the windows. That was a vacation never to be forgotten.

(Here's the original picture, and you can see all of Ron's comment if you scroll down:
www.ipernity.com/doc/290645/48863690 ... you have left a comment on this picture too but I don't know if you'd read Ron's hilarious story...and if you look through the comments there are some others which will cause you to hoot uncontrollably! :D)

Beautiful back lighting. I went there once as a kid and I remember that the mosquitoes seemed to be more numerous than the ponies.

A delightful scene very well captured, Val. Love the way the processing has increased the contrast and made the colours that much richer. Also love the light on the water and the artistic reflection.
