And so often they don't scan and the numbers have to be put in manually. That always makes me laugh.

They are a chaotic failure many times !

When it comes to our modern-day "conveniences", there is no such thing as perfect performance. That's why we still need hard copy records and devices that don't rely on a computer in order to operate. Did you know that huge retail stores have to close when they lose computer power? You can't process a checkout or conduct inventory without it; that would have been unthinkable even 25 years ago! That being said, so much time and man hours have been saved as a result of technological advancement. But it would be sensible to maintain an alternative to computer and electrical power just in case... ;-)
