Blackfriars Station [1864] (2) - 8 February 2015

Blackfriars Station [1864] (2) - 8 February 2015
The Blackfriars Station of the South Eastern Railway had been conceived by the Charing Cross Railway Company, which explains the inscription, but opened in 1864 after a takeover by the former. It closed as soon as 1868 when SER Waterloo Station (now Waterloo East) opened a little to the west. It has been known at various times as Blackfriars Road to avoid confusion with the later Blackfriars station(s). The bridge and entrance were restored in 2005. Unfortunately (in my opinion) a cafe has been opened in the entrance but the whole thing is still a delight.
