Tower, Cheyenne Station

Taken at the train station in downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Union Pacific operates near here, including the "steam shop" for the historic locomotives.
The story is told that this station is positioned within the view just down the hill from the state capitol building. UP wanted the legislators of Wyoming to clearly see where the state's wealth was coming from.

Taken behind the train station in downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Union Pacific operates near here, and you can watch many, many trains pass by on the other side of the chain link fence.

Cheyenne doesn't just have the Big Boy steam locomotive. They have preserved UP steam locomotive #1242 in Lion's Park.

The logo is, I think, for the Union Pacific.

This "Big Boy" is in static display in a park in Cheyenne. Just a couple of miles away are the Union Pacific Steam Shops, where another Big Boy #4014 was restored to operating condition, and is maintained by Union Pacific.

4012 Cab at Steamtown
|
|
|
We've managed to see a number of the "Big Boy" steam locomotives. Our visit to Steamtown (Scranton, Pennsylvania) adds yet another, #4012.
The locomotive is being maintained quite nicely. You can climb up into the cab, but there are barriers to prevent you from trying to start it up.

Steamtown in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
They have a very nice collection of locomotives, including this one (#43, saddle tank type).
Fortunately, there are benches around to help us rest our feet from walking through the large railroad area.

Tractor Seats (HWW)

|
Outside the factory tour area of John Deere (in Illinois), there is a rest area made up of tractor seats. They are painted in the classic Deere green.
Oh yes, they are attached to a wall.

Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone

A different view from the previous. This was taken in September (no crowds, but iffy weather) right after a snowstorm.
I used the L-Monochrome setting on the Panasonic GX85 (intended to match the rich monochrome style of the Leica).

The weather was very dramatic when we visited Yellowstone in September. The best part was that the crowds had left.
This is a view of Mammoth Hot Springs, taken with the Panasonic GX85 in "L-Monochrome" mode (intended to reproduce the Leica black and white experience).
Square and monochrome, for the Sunday Challenge.
