This is a fishing boat from Scotland Steve ~~~ so I can understand why the scallops should be piped ashore. There were three 40 foot trailers with tractor units waiting to be loaded up, one of them was from Spain

All the best ~~~ Nick

PS have a look at the link below

Interesting shot and link.
In Spain, they eat FAR more fish and shellfish than we do in Britain, And I really do mean by a factor of XXXXXXX!!!!!
Every supermarket has fresh fish and shellfish lining one whole wall. I do wonder what the Spanish appetitet for fish does for sustainability - they must get it all year round from somewhere and all the old candidates are there in profusion. All the fish we think of as being best to avoid due to non-sustainability ends up on the very long fish slabs at all the supermarkets and the markets themselves.
I find it hard to fathom!
I also know that Cornish fishermen (who obey the rules of course), have long had suspicions about Spanish practices!
Just some thoughts! (and I eat fish here as the Spanish do, nearly every day!)

Hi Andy

I too eat fish most days but not scallops, the issue of over fishing and damaging the sea beds are hotly debated, but hopefully collectively we manage things a little better these days ~ Eat well

Thanks for the "ShipSpotting" link ...

... and of course the overfishing problem spans the Atlantic, as well as the different sets of rules mandated by different countries ... Maine lobstermen complain about Canadian rules that allow for the taking of undersize lobsters ...

... and although there are myriad commercial salmon-pen fish farms, less than 3000 natural egg-laying Atlantic Salmon females return to Downeast Maine rivers to spawn, including "my" river, the East Machias; but a salient organization is working on that problem, mainesalmonrivers.org/river-restoration/east-machias-river

Hi Nick,

Nice picture, but I am a little puzzled by the great interest in scallops.
Personnaly, I think they are really over rated, and won't touch them!

The picture earns you a star!

Best Wishes
Peter
