The locomotive toured extensively in the United States and Canada (from 1969 to 1973) and Australia (from 1988 to 1989).

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Erhard Bernstein clubOf course it is our nations most well known locomotive, and very popular for all to see!
Glad you like it too!
Best Wishes
Peter
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubI'm glad you noticed the colours! The locomotive I've photographed many times, the colours are rarer!

Peter
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Nick Weall clubJudging by the number of people who had paid to ride behind it, you can understand why all the railways want to book it!
It is pleasing to note that all the stupidity of trespassing lineside seems to have died a death. Only a handful of sensible photographers in each spot.
Best Wishes

Saved in fav's by me
Best wishes ... Steve
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to SteYour praise is much appreciated, as ever.
The location is correct, the same place we had been previously when we were trying bird pictures with our respective cameras.. I got the idea that the vegetation here could do with a bit of clearance, maybe that's why it looks different.
Any more thoughts on GCR this weekend?
Best Wishes
Peter
Ste has replied to Peter_Private_Box clubPerhaps this is the tree we were watching the Squirrels from the car ?
Yes given that the weather is not too bad Saturday i will head for Woodthorpe bridge and see how the land lays for parking there these days hopefully in time for the first double header of the day ... Alan and his friend hope to get there by 10.00am also

As Albert Camus said "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower"
And of course the Flying Scotsman is a big bonus!

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to gezginruh clubThank you so much for your visit and such kind words! I am so pleased that you like my choice of picture from the day. The autumn colours are always nice!
I remember almost two years ago (only 6 days shy) we saw this locomotive, and it was not autumn colours. None the less a wonderful memory for us.

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Ecobird clubYour visit is most welcome as ever, thank you.
As you might have guessed, Autumn colours were up for consideration too!
Without them this railway is not particularly scenic!

Terrific shot, Peter!

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Andy Rodker clubThank you!
Your memory is certainly correct. The web site www.flyingscotsman.org.uk/about
tells the story. As you can see, it was nothing to do with British Rail..(No surprises there!)
I am pleased that you like the picture.
