Leaving Schmalzgrube

Leaving Schmalzgrube
The locomotive is an 0-4-4-0 , number 99-1568-7, on the 750mm gauge Jöhstadt railway. Unusually, the two power bogies are 'back to back' with their cylinders in the middle of the locomotive.

Hi Peter, the locomotive is a Saxon IV K. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxon_IV_K This is not a Mallet machine but Meyer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meyer_locomotive In Chemnitz one finds also a regular track machine of this type.
BR 98 001 (
The IV K machines were all built in Chemnitz in the Saxon machine factory, formerly Richard Hartmann.

Hi Rosa,

Thank you for your enthusiastic visit here!

We came to see steam locomotives in the snow, and we found them, quite a few of them!
A very rare sight in England (eg www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/44029646 ), but here we visited four steam railways, and around 10 different locomotives.
A great time had!

Best Wishes
Peter
