From the colour of the stone I reckon this is granite from Madrid Province. but I can't be sure. The Nuevos Ministerios complex can be seen through the gap.

Not sure about the granite stonework though. The pillars and step risers look too laminated for granite, unless it has been considerably metamorphosed. it looks more sedimentary to me. Any chance of a close-up photo of the stone?
Andy Rodker club has replied to Earthwatcher clubAnd I think you're right! There is so much granite here but the colour isn't far out for some granite works, but I think it might be marble. Probably not limestone as that doesn't last 5 minutes here!
In itself a very nice picture, with great colours in the stone.
The presentation you have given us here goes to another level, in that it so much looks like a 'Necker Cube' , and we have to actually look properly!!
