Wow Andy - this is really a huge building. I had no idea how big it was. I also looked it up on Google Earth, and there are so many houses etc surrounding it - absolutely fascinating.

Yes. It's Gi-normous, Jenny! When it was constructed in the late 1500s, even the Forbidden Palace in Peking hadn't yet reached this scale! So it was the largest building in the world at that time!

The palace is so vast that it dwarfs the town around it but it is a good-sized town, not a village. Scale can be deceptive sometimes!
