I had to look up cistus, as I hadn't heard that name before. Apparently it's a rock rose, but it only lasts a day - bit like my day lilies. This picture is a gorgeous one of the mountains and the lavender and cistus adding colour to the scene

If you time it right (more by luck than judgement), you can see whole mountainsides covered in the large blooms and it is a sight to behold!

Yes, also called rock rose. It covers the hillsides and is beautiful when in flower but a nuisance underfoot when walking off-path as the thick stems are a nightmare to try and cross.
