La Sierra de La Cabrera


I take many shots from this Sierra. I don't really explain why such a small area has its own 'Sierra' designation.
This photo maybe gives a clue.
If you drive north out of Madrid, on the N1 (Ruta de Burgos), you soon see a spactacular jagged ridge ahead of you. It's not all that high (1500m or so - higher than Ben Nevis at any rate), not very long (6-7 miles), but its granite curiosities and isolated position within the larger area of the Sierra de Guadarrama gives it a grandeur and fame all its own, hence its separate tag of a Sierra within a Sierra..
