An interesting point about go-to railing materials. They're often very dateable.

From about 5 km from the centre to about 10, Madrid is ringed by swathes of identi-kit buildings, roads, and railings! These districts are indistinguishable from each other and now probably house over half of Madrid's population. They were all built in the late 70s and early 80s in what must have been a mad precursor to Madrid's later construction boom of the late 90s to the crash of 2008 (which saw the building of suburbs further out, many of which lie there forlornly unfinished).
The only thing in favour of the earlier boom is that, apparently, the blocks of flats were much more sturdily built and with larger living spaces than in the later boom. I tried to find a photo of the earlier style but I haven't taken any. They simply haven't inspired me, unless under a sunrise or sunset such as this where the buildings aren't the main point! www.ipernity.com/doc/2247598/43291950/in/album/934636

It's a scorcher here :-))

Its 100 + here and not much cooler at night and, strangely for Madrid, humid with it. So I am having to lean away from my laptop in case it drowns in the sweat from my brow!
