Sierra de La Cabrera and an exuberence of granite.

Encina (holm oak), Canchos Largo y Gordo. And granite, granite and more granite!
Look closely at the oak. It has been lopped. This is a 'managed' wild landscape! It is also my favourite walking country.

I was, Nick - but sadly I haven't been more than once in 18 months - a bout of ill health put paid to that. This is why you see so many old Pano shots from me. However I'm pleased to say I have been given a clean bill of health so I'll be getting back into the mountains soon - in time for the Spring Show I hope!

Next to the structures and lines of tree and rocks and ignoring my surprise about all that granit in Spain (limestones, the mediterrainian countries exist out of limestones ... ?), I like the mood of the view: out of the shadow into the shimmering heat of a hot afternoon. Or so.

Well, this one and many thousands of others. The encina (holm oak) is ubiquitous in much of Spain; it doesn't mind hot dry summers and periods of drought.
