Madison Junction

Madison Junction
Coming into Yellowstone National Park from the west, one follows the entrance road for fourteen miles from the town of West Yellowstone, just outside the park, to Madison Junction where the entrance road joins the lower loop of the main road. Madison Junction is also the place where the Madison River begins at the confluence of the Gibbon and Firehole Rivers and then flows out of the park to the west along the same route as thee entrance road. There is a campground at Madison Junction and these sunset photos were taken near the campground and the river. We were camped there early in the year when the roads were just being opened.

Nora Caracci, Nouchetdu38, Ivica Truto, tiabunna and 18 other people have particularly liked this photo

They have had some massive wildfires in Yellowstone over the years, the worst in 1988 (800,000 acres). Some of the areas affected by these fires are still quite bare of vegetation while others are growing back.
