Grass Widow

I don't know how this wildflower got its name but it is known as the Grass Widow and is one of the first wildflowers to bloom in the spring. We had photographed them earlier on the west side of the mountains but now they are blooming in our area, only the second wildflower to bloom here. .

Wow, ANOTHER flower that you haven't seen?! I really figured you'd seen Henderson's Fawn Lilies...but reading about them, gosh, they only grow in a small area, not all over the PNW like I kind of assumed. It's such fun to see them I must admit. And I'm delighted that you were so smitten by my main image you almost forgot to leave a comment...HAHAHAHAHAHA...I feel that way about your photography and sometimes I just about forget too! :D *high five*
(We also have the cream-colored Fawn Lily too, but they don't grow on our property...they are on our ridge trail on BLM about 1/2 a mile down the ridge...I am crazy about them too! Meh, not going to catch them this year, oh well! I would LOVE to see the bright yellow ones you've got, what knock-outs!!)
My poison oak is still itchy but getting better. There was a time when it didn't affect me but it does now. Ugh. Mosquitos are itchy but I don't really swell up. Bees and yellow jackets aren't bad either but wasps and hornets are just plain bad news. Wasps don't hurt too bad, it's the hornets...MAN are they awful. If it's just one sting I don't swell too badly, but 2+ and I get terrible swelling and insane itching. For the itches, do try hot water on them if you haven't used this method before. It seems like it wouldn't work except logic says it should and it does. Kills the itch for hours. Better than any bug bite spray or ointment. When I discovered this tip online and it actually WORKED, I told Steve and the next time he had an itchy bite he tried it and yep, it works like magic!
That fritillary pudica is NUTTY BEAUTIFUL! :) Isn't it awesome that we've developed the skills to take nice pictures of these gorgeous blooms?! How nice it is to be able to share them with everyone...and I am really enjoying your photography so very much...can't wait to see the pudicas! :)
