Local Wildflowers
Folder: Native Flora and Fauna
Tall Meadow Larkspur
Photographed near our home on one of our daily walks, this is, I believe, the Tall Meadow Larkspur, quite common in our area.
Prairie Smoke
Another wildflower photographed near our home, this is Prairie Smoke, Geum triflorum.
Grass Widow
This is the bud of a Grass Widow, a wildflower that grows all over Washington and is one of the earliest spring wildflowers, the second we've found blooming in our area.
Grass Widow
I don't know how this wildflower got its name but it is known as the Grass Widow and is one of the first wildflowers to bloom in the spring. We had photographed them earlier on the west side of the mountains but now they are blooming in our area, only the second wildflower to bloom here. .
Yellow Bells
Fritillaria pudica, Yellow Bells, ranges from the Mexican border through Alberta and British Columbia and from the Rockies west. It is small, early-blooming, tends to grow in low brush and is rather easily overlooked. Not all the flowers have the maroon markings.
Yellow Bells
Yellow Bells, Fritillaria pudica, grows all over eastern Washington, but it blooms early, is quite small, and so its blooms are sometimes missed.
Yellow Bells
This is the third wildflower we've found this spring, which is coming very slowly. They are Yellow Bells, Fritillaria pudica. We've only found half a dozen flowers so far, but know where to find more. The drops are the aftermath of a heavy rainstorm and I was very muddy and wet when finished photographing these.
Slender Cinquefoil
This is Slender Cinquefoil a common wildflower in our area and photographed near our home.
Butter and Eggs
This is a common wildflower in our area and across the west. Butter and Eggs is an invasive and noxious weed, but still beautiful.
