Harmony Borax Works

Harmony Borax Works
These are the remains of the Harmony Borax Works near Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park. The works were opened in 1881 and produced three tons of borax daily. The works closed in 1888 and were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. When still in operation the borax was hauled to Mojave in large mule-drawn wagons.

This look very interesting, Ron. I've just looked up to see what borax is used for. Quite a lot in fact! The works didn't last long, I gather it may not have been an economic industry. Good to see that the structures are placed on the National Register.

Good shot. I remember borax as a child being used to get rid of ant nests in unwanted places and haven't really come across it since (or I haven't noticed it more likely!).

Fascinating old ruins. Interesting to see what look like the remains of mud brick walls.
