Snake-eyed Skink

Snake-eyed Skink
I am not at all sure of the identification of this lizard. Elegant Snake-eyed Skink was the best I could do by way of an ID but several others have come up with better suggestions. If anyone else knows better, please correct me. It was photographed on a Eucalyptus tree in the Davies Creek area of Dinden National Park and I've just called it "Snake-eyed Skink."

It's certainly a skink, but I gather Queensland has over 200 varieties! I'd tentatively say a Bar-sided Forest Skink.

Given where you were and the species distribution map of skinks in AUS, I'd say this is most likely a Coastal Snake-Eyed Skink (Cryptoblepharus litoralis). There are so many skinks under the "Snaked-Eyed" category, though, that you'd need photographs from all angles of the animal to positively ID them as many are very similar to each other. A general ID of "Snake-Eyed Skink (Cryptoblepharus sp.)" might be most fitting for this particular shot. Since you saw the animal in person, though, do compare it to my ID suggestion in bold. Do note that the species you pinned on it, is more of an inland one not often seen in the Queensland area -- though the two look very similar to each other.

Anyway.... A wonderful capture of this cute little hunter =) Great camouflage, too!

That really looks like what I saw but I've changed the name, as you suggested to "Snake-eyed Skink."

No idea what it is Ron but it sure has lovely snake-like markings. Love the textures in this image, and of course this cute little critter basking in the sunlight. Well captured
