"Australia Burns"

"Australia Burns"
"Australia burns!" That was what one of the men who were setting these controlled burns said when we asked about the fires. Taken along the Davies Creek Road in Dinden National Park, this is one of my wife's photos.

Nora Caracci, , Don Sutherland, Treasa Ui Cionaodha and 22 other people have particularly liked this photo

Impressive. Here the fires started yesterday, 140 firemen and 40 trucks and 3 planes in impossible rocky places. Every year. It is a pity.

As here with a big difference: here they are set but uncontrolled, and all our forests are disappearing year after year...

I'm not a fan of these controlled burns -- especially out in nat'l parks and stuff.... In a land where so much of their wildlife is endangered it's nuts to do this to the land to supposedly prevent wildfires. A natural wildfire will happen no matter what us humans think we did to prevent it and it's a part of the natural cycle of things. It doesn't have the same beneficial effects when they're set like this nor does the smaller wildlife have time to get out of the way. They do way more harm to the environment than good -- but hey, if humans benefit it's all good, right? (Not)

That aside.... Nice shot!! ;)

A good shot of a "controlled burn", Ron. To all those concerned about this being done, it is far less destructive than a wildfire. These fires are lit in conditions which allow them to be kept slow-moving and under control, while removing the dangerous build up of flammable litter under the eucalypt forests.
