I had been walking the Southwest Peninsula Coast Path and met some American students along the way. We chatted blithely and went into a pub in Zennor for much needed refreshment (it was a glorious day, like in NY). Some of us had mobile phones, but in 2001 there was no coverage in the area. When we got to the bar and the American accents were heard, the bar-lady said she was so terribly sorry. We didn't know what she meant until she pointed to the pub television, high up in the corner. It took a while for the true horror to sink in.

I like Katja's comment. The lies keep on coming. What is wrong with people?
A timely tribute, Diane!

Didn't hear anything of it here in Australia on the anniversary. There have been mentions other years.

Still, less casualties that day there than on the day when Saddam did the chemical attack on the Kurds in 1988.

It was overshadowed here by the plethora of Trump outrages, even at the very memorial service over which he presided. Ugh, I remember that attack on the Kurds, the horrifying news and photos.
