Thanks for sharing this Diane. On Sunday I rode my bike through a cemetery and stopped at the grave of Robert who only lived from December 1916 until November 1917. It really is so sad for the children gone too soon and for their parents. If their spirits are hanging about they must have gotten a giggle over the rubber ducks.

I hope so, Larry! Yes, the little kids, it's shocking how many there are in old cemeteries. Of course, we all know of the high infant mortality in past centuries (or even decades), but to see it in writing is something else. I was in one last fall that had quite a few older children and teenagers, in one case three in the same family, who died in 1918. After a minute, it dawned on me that it was the flu epidemic!
