Over the Rainbow

07 May 2021 24 24 394
A super rainbow here in Aberfoye, captured at this place after a sprint in the pouring rain. In fact this was here for some time and displayed a stunning double at times too. The big central tree provides a nice anchor in my opinion. As is often the case with such conditions, a blast of super sunlight provided the perfect foreground colours. Enjoy full screen. Time for a rest -again!

02 May 2021 25 25 252
Another very nice viewpoint above Loch Ard looking towards the holiday village of Aberyfoyle. A spot for picnics and contemplation after a steep climb to here. Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

Sunset over Loch Achray

07 May 2021 18 21 172
An evening dash over ‘The Dukes Pass’ from Aberfoyle brings me to the shores of Loch Achray near Loch Katrine. Time is moving on and I have driven looking for a sunset far and long enough for this day. A pity that I was never to explore this Loch and surroundings more on this holiday as it is our last evening here. Enjoy full size.

A corner of Loch Ard

A capture from what is know as Little Loch Ard here in the Trossachs near the village of Aberfoyle. Enjoy full screen

Stumped!

07 May 2021 37 60 270
A fence/gate post makes a great mountain for this miniature tree to start life. Will it outgrow the post or transform into a true Bonsai? A pity that I am unlikely to ever walk past this spot again. Seen near Aberfoyle, Scotland. Have a great weekend.

Inversnaid Falls

07 May 2021 28 26 246
At the side of the Inversnaid Hotel here on the shores of Loch Lomond sits this most impressive waterfall which is in two parts. The piers, also in front of the hotel allows the ferry and pleasure boats to bring in sightseers to picnic at the foot of these falls as well as taking refreshments or rooms in the splendid hotel where we took coffee and creamed scones. From here one can take the steep road into the mountains and along Loch Arklet to Loch Katrine and also the resort of Aberfoyle. See PiPs Enjoy full size.

Landing spot for the hotel that sits behind me and also wild the road to Loch Arklet & Loch Katrine.

A view towards the Arrochar Alps

07 May 2021 19 15 209
Taken above Inversnaid on the north east side of Loch Lomond looking west. We see here Ben Ime (1011 m) on the left with Ben Vane (915 m) and Ben Vorlich (985 m). All grand mountain hikes for our Munro baggers. For us however, just a fine distant scene on this most beautiful day. Enjoy full size.

Ben Lomond from the north

07 May 2021 19 18 259
As I looked down the stretch of Loch Lomond from my seat, just behind me, and here is another equally stunning view. This is the north face of Scotland's second most famous mountain: Ben Lomond at 974 metres (3195ft) and is one of the most familiar of the Munros (mountains over 3000 ft high) in Scotland. It is the most southerly and is also one of the most popular hill-walks in Scotland. PiPs Enjoy full size.

A sit down over Loch Lomond

A very nice viewpoint above this northern part of the Loch here. Looking south. Out of sight over my left shoulder is Ben Lomond with its snow peak is greeting us too. PiP Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

Away from it all

08 Jul 2021 16 15 236
Sometimes we just want to escape the world. Get away from this dreadful Pandemic, away from unnatural weather cycles, politics, away from football even, so it was good for me to see a very rare night of stars. I am here in North Lancashire only a few metres from our rented holiday cottage at 30 minutes past midnight looking south east with the lights of Kirby Lonsdale on the horizon. Its still quite light even though there is almost no moon at all. I was looking for the Milky Way and there is just a hint right of centre here with the other two stripes being just wispy clouds. For me a moment of peace and isolation -for a change. ~ A panorama of six portrait wide angle shots here. Enjoy too -in full screen. Keep safe. Herb

Amongst the fields of Barley

04 Jul 2021 30 23 311
The lovely singer Eva Cassidy recorded a song once called Fields of Gold. ' Here is a picture for our minds eye to go with those words and music. This a continuation of our walk in the Lune Valley in Cumbria. It had recently been very stormy but these clouds soon turned more gentle. PiP Enjoy full size. "You'll remember me when the west wind moves Among the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold…"

A pond, some reeds and a fence

09 Jul 2021 42 55 289
Seen on one of our walks in North Lancashire. A farmer’s field and a small pond that is an oasis for the cattle and sheep in this field. For us here – just a fence to make us happy Have a great weekend.

Barley near the River Lune.

04 Jul 2021 27 24 268
As we take the path away from the riverside we pass fields of what I presume is Barley. Barley is grown around here for the purpose of beer production but there is some wheat production too. Of course for me I just liked the shape and colours here. Enjoy full screen.

The River Lune

04 Jul 2021 30 39 284
The River Lune is one of Lancashire's most beautiful rivers. It is only 53 miles long running from its source near Newbiggin to the Irish Sea. Here we see it in almost drought conditions just above Kirkby Lonsdale in a most wonderful light. Enjoy full screen

Devils Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale

04 Jul 2021 27 29 348
A visit to this wonderful small town brings us down to the banks of the River Lune. Here we see not only the old bridge, which now only takes walkers, but also the rather attractive road bridge set in the background. This is in the county of Cumbria and also said to be the Lower lake District. See PiPs “Spanning the River Lune to the south and east of Kirkby Lonsdale is Devil’s Bridge. This magnificent three-arched bridge, probably dates from the 12th or 13th century. ~ The bridge was later ascribed to the Devil. The story grew that the Devil appeared to an old woman and promised to build a bridge in exchange for the first soul to cross it. The woman agreed, so the Devil built the bridge. The clever old woman then threw a loaf of bread over the bridge and her dog chased it.” More info: www.kirkbylonsdale.co.uk/discover/13341-devils-bridge Enjoy full screen.

Greetings from Silverdale

07 Jul 2021 32 47 285
A week’s break in north Lancashire allows me to visit some places that we have not been to for some years now. This is the seaside area known as Silverdale and one might imagine how that name was derived. We have just finished our picnic here and are looking down Morcambe Bay over the treacherous Walton Sands which houses the Kent Channel. The tall buildings in the distance is the Heysham Nuclear Power station. Our path continues between the narrow walled path on the left into the headland trees and beyond. Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

The pride of Loch Lomond

07 May 2021 22 21 254
A look at this famous Loch towards the south from above Inversnaid. It took a while and some effort finding this viewpoint but when we did, we were very pleased indeed as I hope you are. (A stitch of four photos) Enjoy full size. Ps – another short break now.
