Seen by the Leeds-Liverpool canal at Pennington Flash. Thompson Dagnall Sculptor: "Unlocked is a book holding the secrets and stories of the canals. The River Lui just before it joins the majestic Rover Dee. We are back in Glen Lui here during our Summer of 2019. A fine round walk just above the river here past tumbling waterfalls lined with craggy rocks.

All's well in the skies above Seacaves near Paphos in Cyprus.- Looking very similar to the 'OK' hand sign that we sometimes show to our friends. Taken earlier on in this year. Enjoy

A very wide four photo 160° view over Dove Stone reservoir in Greenfield. Looking NW here towards the hill we known as Pots and Pans but technically this part is called Alderman's Hill. (Pots & pans is in fact the monument some distance behind this.) Dovestones is to the left but we can also see the dam wall of Yeoman Hey reservoir to the right. I am on the far section of the 2.6 mile round walk here. As can be seen, plenty of water after weeks of heavy rainfall. Best full screen.

Just west beyond the hotels and bustle of this wonderful town there is a stretch of water were large roaring waves are born. Normally we see hoards of surfers in such places but on our high cliff walk we saw mainly kayaking. A series of three here. All from my 2013 Portuguese Algarve trip. PiPs.

Another look at the Calder & Hebble Navigational canal. this time we see the canal basin - the place where canal boats and barges can be moored long stay. Normally at least one boat yard is also present, so a place where one can bring your craft for repairs and service. We see here also the old worn-out shiny cobbled tow path where many years ago now, horses would pull the working boats along the canal. I am lucky on this day that the water is so still, allowing such fine reflections. Enjoy

Another look over my local reservoir here at Dovestones in Greenfield, as the sun tries to come up and warm the cold ground here. Ahead we are looking into Chew Valley, a steep long ravine almost, climbing up to the high moorland Greenfield reservoir. To the right is the old yacht club that is still used but very quiet compared to its heyday some 20 years back. -of course the light is once again principle here. Enjoy full screen

A welcoming open door into this yard beckons the innocent fence photographer inside, but I have to resist the temptation and just grab this as I pass by. I do like the matching fence, window and door colours here I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

Postcards from Armação de Pêra in Portugal to brighten up our Winter voting day mood. Maybe they got lost in the post for over six years now :) This main capture taken from just at the edge of the main beach, which was one of the most beautiful town beaches that I have the pleasure to walk on. Behind me are large rocks with small caves and tunnels. Closer to the high rise promenade is a collection of small colourful fishing boats with their attendent fishermen attending to the nets.

A remarkable scene taken at the wildlife water reserve of 'Penninton Flash' in Lancashire. Remarkable because it is very unusual to see these normally solitary birds grouped like this. The collective noun for a collection of herons is 'A siege of herons'. They were not all our usual British Grey herons but a few different varieties. As can be seen, a few other water fowl there too. I am in a bird watching hide taking this, surrounded by guys with 500mm lenses. PiP

A Winter's view of this popular canal at the Saddleworth village of Uppermill looking west. In front of us is the aptly named Saddleworth Viaduct carying the Transpennine Railway line to Yorkshire. more info PiP shows view from opposite side

Yes, the hill we are looking at here is actually called 'Pots and Pans'. A cool morning with white frost on the ground, just about evident here on the bottom of the picture. From the higher surrounding Saddleworth Moors, mist is slowly dropping down but behind me the sun is fighting to come out. Enjoy large.

Share here some of the delights of this Yorkshire canal system near Sowerby Bridge. We are just approaching the Copley Viaduct that runs overhead here. Nice full screen
