NC500 GT. - 38 – Durness
Our home for a week here at the Durness camp site of Sango Sands overlooking Durness Beach as seen on my previous photo. This is the type of accommodation used by probably the majority of North Coast 500 explorers. Our home was the first on the right here. From here we are only a short walk to the famous Smoo cave.

The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems.

Ko Hummel, Luis Miguel, Colin Ashcroft, Roger (Grisly) and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

I’m just looking for your outfit Roger. Good that we both made it here. See you again in Inverness back at the start of this 500 mile jaunt.

Yes I was Colin. A three week trip with time near Aviemore too. As shown here a clock-wise trip. All a bit hairy but the roads were quieter and I was younger. Did you go along the top too? Many thanks for your NC500 input. Great stuff.

Hello Herb

Not during the 1987 trip we got as far as Loch Eriboll and view to Ben Hope that day. My trips on my own in the 1990s and early 2000 were all West coast I (and family) found Oban, Fort William, Mull, Skye very attractive,

As a child Dad drove us all along the East when we had a touring holiday I remember we stayed at Dornoch (Hotel) and got as far as Tongue - staying at a B&B at Bettyhill. I haven’t found any of the photos yet but know there are some !

A vivid memory was collecting colourful triangular Car window stickers of the places we visited I remember one for Tongue, Thurso, Dornoch but also Inverness and Elgin and Nairn as we also did part of that coast . It must have been a 1950s thing.

I’ll keep looking at your photos.
