Foxstone Cairn

Foxstone Cairn
Once when I was feeling more energetic than I seem to be at the moment, I used to walk along the high ridge overlooking Dovestones dam. Up there are a few very interesting rocks and on top of one (Foxstone) we have a man-made cairn. Of course the late light on the rocks make this. A year later I was to revisit the same cairn almost on the same day, in winter snows. See PiP. Taken in 2012/2013

Excellent Image Herb as Japp said looks like natural artwork. I think I have a photo of the same cairn we will have to do a walk round the tops of Dovestones this next year.

Yes it was a great sight with this light and as Dave, below says, resembling a Walnut Whip. Its been a while since I was here last and I ache at the prospect of climbing up there again but it could be done. We will see how things plan out in the new year.

Haha, you are dead right lad. It does look like a Walnut Whip. Glad you like it. It takes some climbing to get up there but a grand walk once done. Been a while since I was there last up there. Maybe like Toz, we might do something up here together too.

What an amazing rock formation..............and the man-made cairn on the top looks as if it's always been there.

The light is amazing..........and I love the textures and details in the rocks and the cairn. Just brilliant.

A cracking shot in the PiP too.........it looks very pretty in the snow, but the snow also covers up the detail as well. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Another to wet your appetite Keith. Amazing rock and light found for the first time when I took this. You need light like that to bring out the textures I think. Glad you enjoyed the winter view too. As you say 'swings and rounderbouts.

WOW! Absolutely fabulous images Herb. I even doubted that it was in England, but so pleased to see that it is. An area I don't know at all, but my eldest daughter's partner comes from Derbyshire, so hopefully I will visit one day.

Hi Rosa. Yes, some photos defy believe that they are what they say. This only a short drive and stiff walk from my home was entirely made by the wonderful light that I witnessed here. If you are coming near here give me a bell.
