Godrevy Grey Seals

In October I posted a photo of the famous Godrevy Lighthouse in Cornwall (see pip) where I mentioned we had seen grey seals around the rocks too. Here then you see a collage of just three of the photos that I snapped there. The bottom two, showing the same mother and her pup. I was very pleased to catch the one with the pup suckling its mother, which I think is quite rare to see. The tide was out as I took these from a high cliff vantage point some way from the seals, and I imagine it would have been quite a different picture with the sea being in.

You were so lucky to get these shots Herb. They are beautiful and make a superb collage. I have only ever been able to take pictures of them in the Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall.

Glad you liked them Rosa, it was with you in mind that I have posted these today. You can see that I could not make up my mind which one to post. The overcast weather made all things grey that day and so the seals blended well into the background. Never been to a seal sanctuary!

We are lucky here in Britain that we have some of the largest number of grey seals in the World.

Three superb images.............nicely presented in this collage Herb. You were really lucky to see so many seals in one place. I love the detail you've managed to capture, especially the pups which are gorgeous.

Their camouflage is really quite amazing too. Cracking wildlife shots.

Always good when you like my natural history captures Keith. As said to Rosa above, the grey weather helped to camouflage these seals. Seal pups are always a great pleasure to see.

Thanks Peter. We have never done such a tour. These were down below the cliffs as we walked towards the lighthouse but it must have been a place were they came often as there were notices on the protective fence by the cliff, which bordered a big path to be very careful not to disturb these wales. These were taken with my long 300mm , being the equivalent of a 450mm in old 35mm terms then using just the centre of the picture so amplifying it more. Glad I got them and that you enjoye dthem too.

Yes, the second time we saw a large colony of seals (the other just off the north Anglesey coast) last year. I was pleased with these and they were caught by me unexpectedly as I though I might see one or two but not so many -there were more than you see here!
