Gros- Horloge

Il Gros Horloge è sicuramente l’attrattiva principale della città, visto che questo orologio astronomico viene fatto risalire al XIV secolo. L'orologio è collocato all’interno di un arco rinascimentale che taglia la via omonima. Il meccanismo è uno dei più antichi in Francia, visto che il movimento è datato 1389. Fu Jourdain del Leche a iniziare la costruzione dell'orologio: Jean de Felain, che fu il primo a diventare il “governatore ufficiale dell'orologio”, fu, invece, colui che si occupò di terminarlo.

Sulla facciata rinascimentale c’è l’immagine di un sole dorato con 24 raggi su uno sfondo blu stellato. Il quadrante misura 2,5 metri di diametro. Le fasi lunari sono evidenziate nell'occhio della parte superiore del quadrante. I giorni della settimana vengono indicati all’interno di un’apertura posta sulla base del quadrante con soggetti allegorici che rappresentano ogni giorno della settimana.

The Gros Horloge is undoubtedly the city's main attraction, as this astronomical clock dates back to the 14th century. The clock is located inside a Renaissance arch that cuts through the street of the same name. The mechanism is one of the oldest in France, as the movement dates back to 1389. It was Jourdain del Leche who started the construction of the clock: Jean de Felain, who was the first to become the 'official governor of the clock', was the one who finished it.

On the Renaissance façade is the image of a golden sun with 24 rays against a starry blue background. The dial measures 2.5 metres in diameter. The phases of the moon are highlighted in the eye at the top of the dial. The days of the week are indicated inside an aperture at the base of the dial with allegorical subjects representing each day of the week.
