Yes, it is. When I lived in this area 40 years ago, the freight trains were still running here daily. The hiking trail was built on the old tracks and is 24 miles long, mostly just straight and I find that so boring. Growing up in a city with many parks, this is a poor substitute for the trails I used to walk.

I haven't seen it personally, but west of Midland they built one of these hiking/biking trails on a railroad bed.

And it is the best way to utilize what was already built so solid.
