Keills Chapel

22 Sep 2017 16 21 629
Keills Chapel is a simple, rectangular chapel dedicated to St Cormac. It is one of few churches from the 1100s and 1200s surviving in Argyll. The chapel served as the parish church of Knapdale until the parish was split into two in 1734. The chapel stands on a slope above Loch na Cille, with the island of Danna beyond. The cross is a rough plain replica of the shape of the original cross, which is now inside the chapel to protect it from the elements.

On this ring tree there are 4 rings. The top left is my old engagement ring which has broken band, the lower left is my mother's wedding ring from 1922, the centre is a sapphire and diamond engagement ring to replace the one with the broken band (but that has also worn away as you can see), and the larger band was given to me by an old boyfriend. He had it made from gold nuggets which he had panned. I cannot wear any of these rings now. but they all have memories of love. John Lennon - Love is Real Love is Real - Lyrics

This is the unprepossessing inside of a cardigan coat which I was given last Christmas. I love wearing it. The second PiP is another idea, but I didn't have enough time to do the jigsaw this morning.

One of the UK's great five heritage railways, The Poppy Line, offers a spectacularly scenic ride from Sheringham along the coast to Weybourne and through the heathland to Holt.

The SSC this week is Jewellery. I rarely wear any jewellery, but always wear a pendant of sorts on a silver chain, and occasionally ring the changes. My favourite pendant, a small cube of silver inset with 2 small pearls, is round my neck as I write. I'll probably change the scene around Christmas time and wear one of these instead for a week or so. The PiP shows a bracelet made of small imperfect seed pearls

Much of the seafront at Sheringham is backed by concrete walls that are essential to stop the sea washing the town away, but aren't intrinsically attractive. Steadily they seem to be being decorated with murals. This mural was painted by Colin Seal, and is based on old photos of real characters.

Norwegian Fjord Horse

The Norwegian Fjord Horse (Norwegian: fjordhest) is a relatively small but very strong horse breed from the mountainous regions of western Norway. It is an agile breed of light draught horse build. All Fjord horses are dun in colour, with five variations in shade recognised in the breed standard. One of the world's oldest breeds, it has been used for hundreds of years as a farm horse in Norway, and in modern times is popular for its generally good temperament. It is used both as a harness horse and under saddle. The natural mane is long, thick, and heavy, but is usually clipped in a distinctive crescent shape to between five and ten centimetres (two to four inches) so that it stands straight up and emphasises the shape of the neck. This is as close as I could get to this peacock. The PiP is a macro photo of eyes which I took before reading the rules properly. It doesn't fit he bill. ;-)

Saturday Self-Challenge Is Active Again! The Poppy…

08 Nov 2017 21 26 655
Saturday self challenge: The idea is to create an abstract design by deliberately photographing the subject out of focus. This wasn't as easy as it sounds, so there was lots of trials and errors. The easiest way seemed to be focusing on a distant subject and then moving quickly to a close subject. I tried the other way round, and focused closely on the edge of a litter container and then quickly turned to a group of sixth formers selling poppies. The colour was removed and I used Silver Effex to bring out a more 'blocky' result. The original photo is in the PiP. It's even stranger when the image is inverted.
