    Hammer Corvette
The final Corvette... #8 of the "Great 8" has been found! The Mallett Hammer is upside down with the nose going to the Spire in the center of the room. There are lots of rocks, so the removal process will be more time consuming that it was with the other cars. Boulders off by the digger arm is what they had to move to get to the Hammer Corvette.

"The more we dig, the more this is looking like the rear end of the PPG Pace Car." Looks like the Hammer is still lost for the moment.

    Missing 2001 Mallet Hammer Z06
They spent a good part of the day digging after removing the 1.5 millionth Corvette from the sinkhole this morning. It seems to have payed off with this bit of red being exposed. It's most likely the missing 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette seen here in this video: www.youtube.com/watch Time will tell the fate of this car too! It seems the deeper the digging ... the worst shape the cars are in.

2009 “1.5 Millionth” Corvette Recovered In less than a week, the 1.5 Millionth Corvette has gone from location unknown to being dug out from the depths of the sinkhole… regaining its status as a display car in the National Corvette Museum on Thursday. While methods of probing the mounds of dirt in the sinkhole and the use of metal detectors were unsuccessful in finding the milestone Corvette, it was the retrieval process of the Spyder that yielded signs of the first of the two missing ca…

    1.5 Millionth Corvette
The 1.5 Millionth Corvette was freed from the bottom of the sinkhole today and will be removed from the hole on Thursday. The cave itself was also looked at today and it will be interesting to hear what they found. Lots of animated hand waving and picture exchanging when they got back to the surface! Also ... there was a lot of hand digging taking place off to the side and I wonder if they found the red Corvette. It's the last one to be found and freed from the hole. National Corvette Museum Latest update from our Construction Management company, Scott Murphy and Daniel from yesterday afternoon: We are continuing to carefully excavate around the 1.5M Vette. [NCM-MEDIA] ZR-1 Spyder Recovered from Sinkhole Last week, the construction team began the tedious process of removing dirt from the sinkhole in hopes of recovering the two missing Corvettes, and to unearth the ZR-1 Spyder which previously only had a portion of the left rear quarter visible. Digging Away!
They have cut away most of the overhanging floor and are trying get things stabilized to remove the last three Corvettes from the sinkhole. They poured sand over the one visible Spyder Corvette to help protect it while they cut away the concrete. Two of the Corvettes have not been seen since they fell into the hole. The photo shows one lonely fellow digging away at the bottom of the hole and I think he's got a lot of work ahead of him! See it live at: www.corvettemuseum.org/webcam/camera6.sh…

  • Photo Series

    - 21 Mar 2014
I ran across this photo series today and thought it was the kind of pictures you'd take and put away and not think much about for 50 years or so. Interesting for a moment when it happened ... and then forgotten. The photos become more interesting with the passage of time and we get a glimpse into the lives of people long gone. blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/03/10/sherman-oaks-california-1952/
