Risa Profana's photos with the keyword: abstract

Mainly watercolor with some collage and white gesso on watercolor paper. It began as an exercise after watching a workshop-dvd from John Salminen (A designed approach to abstraction). He offers a counter-intuitive approach, one has to follow rules or rather prompts. It is very helpful in a way, since I have been having problems with abstraction, but also with leaving white or empty space, which for him is central to a piece. It was a real struggle, but I enjoyed the process very much. I'm still not sure if calling it done, yet. I will take some distance, to see.
