this year - 2014 - Jim Donovan ( one of the founders of Rusted Root ) asked us a question - "What is your word for 2014?" - above are all the words sent to Jim .. mine .. it's in there .. to be used daily .. - from an email sent by JD -- " Some friends and I have been doing this tradition for a couple of years with surprising success and I thought you might be interested in getting in on the fun. Basically, the idea is to come up with just one word... (Yep, only one!) that most sums up what you would like to bring to your life in the new year. Personally, I use my word as a reminder each day through the year just to keep me on track. For example, two years ago my word was "Clear". During that year, I made it a priority each and every day to find ways to improve clarity in my words, intentions and actions. Though it was just one simple word, I found the effects of remembering it each day to be profoundly positive and that my increased clarity carries through with me to this day. I think of it as an easy way to make meaningful change for myself." oh, yes .. a four hour workshop .. but, with Hossam Ramzy .. never a dull moment .. just ask the drummer about her cell phone going off ! we learned [at least I did] .. more than just rhythms .. we learned the 'why' of them .. can't wait to get my trees from Hossam .. the trees are rhythms .. then, cut the first rhythm in half .. you have another rhythm .. and keep on going .. you have a tree full of rhythms .. (partial lyrics) We, my teacher and I, played this song for every intern, student teacher and volunteer we had when I worked in kindergarten in North Carolina. Some were deeply moved, others not so. Teachers mold our children, consciously or not; I think all should be required to listen to this Harry Chapin song before setting foot in front of any youngsters. But, that is my opinion.
